Interview: Luke Phillips

8 November 2025,

It’s a thank you this week to a player who joined our first team at the start of the season and at time of writing had made 5 starts and 4 substitute appearances.

Luke Phillips has looked very accomplished in all of those appearances. Where had Luke played previously?

“I played for Ascot United from the age of 4 until I was 18 and made my senior debut for Ascot in a cup match against RB Kensington.  Before this season, I missed the chance to play at Stag Meadow through injury, when I was with the Under 18’s, but it was a great game to watch.”

What do you consider your best position?

“I think left back, but I am happy to play further forward as well.”

Do you have a target for the season?

“As a team, I think we should be aiming to win the league. We have such a strong squad. Additionally, we ought to have a decent run in the Vase and perhaps even a shot at Wembley! But we’ll have to play extremely well in each game to progress.”

Who would you have as the first name on your WEFC team sheet?

“For me, Ross (McKernan) would be the first name on the team sheet. He gives us real balance in midfield and is very comfortable on the ball.”

Which pro-club do you support?

“I’m a Fulham fan and my favourite player I’ve seen play for us is Clint Dempsey.”

Any player at Fulham you’d compare yourself to?

“If I had to, I’d probably say Antonee Robinson. He’s a player that likes to get forward and contribute to the attack.”

If you couldn’t play pro-football which other sport would you choose?

“Golf.”
