Match Report
“Obviously the result isn’t ideal for us but I can honestly say that every single one of the players involved tonight worked immensely hard under such difficult circumstances. I’m extremely proud of not just our senior players continuing to be leaders on and off the pitch but our young players from the U16’s who are continuing to impress week in week out. Their understanding of tactical instruction and the resilience to come into a squad two years ahead of their age group is just credit to their ambition and willingness to work hard for their team mates and to progress at this great club. A gutting result but we as a management team are incredibly proud of these lads resilience.
Again, I want to give praise to Henry Johnson and Theo Newman who have developed so well in the last few weeks coming from our U16’s squad into the U18’s. Our goalkeeper Jake, has trained so intensely and as well had an exceptional game, not much he could have done for any of those goals but that’s just football.
Playing with 10 men for almost 20 mins at 2-1 up was an extreme test for us a group and the injuries we suffered just didn’t help either. Injuries can’t be helped at all and that is a part of football but, again, I’m extremely proud of the resilience shown by the lads.
For Markus to receive a red card for that challenge I thought was extremely harsh but we have to respect the decision of the officials always. Markus is a young player who has developed rapidly since we arrived back in December and this is just another learning point for him. It wasn’t too long ago he was saving us by scoring a last minute winner in front a great home crowd. Markus is a really really important player for us both in and out of possession and I’m sure as a collective we we learn from that decision together.”
