Heybridge Swifts U18s vs Windsor & Eton U18s

With mock A-level tests the following day for several of Nick Hull’s squad, our under 18’s were only able to take a team of 11 on the two and half journey to Essex to play their cup tie against Heybridge Swifts.

Windsor started very well playing some great football, carrying a real threat to the Heybridge defence, but then conceded three first half goals through a combination of not cutting out long crosses into our 18-yard area and also losing concentration at set pieces. However, we still continued to apply the majority of pressure and goal threat as the half wore on and our attacking play eventually brought reward when a defensive mix up in the Heybridge defence allowed Oli Bach the opportunity to disposes one of their defenders before rounding a further defender and their goalkeeper to score and reduce the arrears to 1-3.

The second half continued with us pressing to get further back into the game but a blocked clearance from our allowed Heybridge to extend their lead to 4-1 and with tired Windsor heads and legs starting to take their inevitable toll, Heybridge scored a further 2 goals in the final 5 minutes to give an unreflective and harsh scoreline on a game where we played some great football.

All in all, a good team performance in a challenging environment and with some very tired lads by the time they got back to Windsor gone midnight.
