Our last player “interview” of 2024 and we finish the calendar year with top goalscorer Pawel Kowalkowski. Pawel set aside some time for us and didn’t disappoint!
Where have you played previously Pawel?
“Various clubs in Poland such as Polonia Warszawa, Chojniczanka Chojnice, Hutnik Warsaw, Mks Ciechanów, Makowianka Maków Mazowiecki, Korona Ostrołęka & Czarni Jasło. In England, I’ve played for Wealdstone Fc, Haringey Borough and of course I regret the wasted opportunity I had with league club Crawley Town. That may have worked out differently but for the change of Managers… who knows.
In addition to football, I like kickboxing and boxing, and I also enjoyed ballroom dancing for a while, but I gave that up.”
We see you as a centre-forward. Has that always been your position?
“My best position is number 10 or left wing. Previously I had played in midfield. Prior to coming to Stag Meadow, I had always played rotationally in a front three, exchanging positions. The funny thing is that I was made an attacker, the so-called number 9. Of course, I love to shoot and score, but I prefer to assist.”
What’s your footballing ambition?
“I’ll be honest, now I’m looking more into the future, I love football, but I’m conscious of my age. As long as I am healthy and enjoying my football, we’ll just see how high we can go!”
Who’s the best player you’ve played with?
“When I was in Poland, there were players such as Paweł Wszołek (Legia Warsaw & QPR), Miłosz Przybecki & Łukasz Teodorczyk (Polish International who played club football in Italy), who are still very good players. When it comes to Windsor & Eton, my teammates all represent a good level in every position, and I wouldn’t want to single any one player out!”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
“These were my brother’s words, literally like this, “bro, do your thing and show them your football modesty”. Don’t change. “
Is there a goal that stands out for you, your best?
“Hmm there are a few of them but the best would be a rabona shot from 25 yards, literally in the window, bounced off the post fell into the goal!”
Best ground you’ve played at?
“It took place in Poland in 2011/2012. The Legia Warsaw Stadium. I also played for Crawley Town in a game in Scotland against Hamilton Academicals in 2018/2019 – that was a nice ground.”
What do you do outside of WEFC?
“Of course, working! But apart from Football, I devote time to my loved ones. To my wife and my son Theo. This is the most important thing in life!”
