Match Report

Matt Angell’s side exited this season’s Berks & Bucks Charles Twelftree Trophy in a fiercely contested semi-final at Stag Meadow this afternoon. A crowd of 412 came through the gates of Stag Meadow in anticipation of us reaching our first ever cup final. But they were left disappointed as the home side were not able to break down a resolute Burghfield side. The visitors were by the better side in the first half and deserved to go one nil up when Jordan Cox hit an excellent strike from outside the box after his initial free kick rebounded to him from the wall. The ball flew into the top corner, giving George Armstrong no chance. Matt Angell made four changes at half time, and those changes had the desired effect as the home dominated the early stages of the second half. Windsor thought they had got their reward in the 61st minute when Jemel Johnson put the ball into the back of the net after the visitors’ keeper Ben Lallament had palmed the ball onto the bar. The ball dropped down to Johnson, but he was adjudged to be off-side. The result of that decision was a clash in the six yard box by several players, a clash that resulted in red cards for Lallament and Connor Allison. Windsor tried their best to find an equaliser but it wasn’t to be. In truth we didn’t test the stand in keeper enough and Burghfield deserved the victory and their place in the final. We wish them all the best.
