Match Report

Three first half goals were the difference as we collected a big three points on Saturday to stay 4th in the table.

Another confident win at Stag Meadow and results elsewhere makes it just ten points off top spot with seven games in hand.

Top scorer Nick Thumwood was once again in on the action, popping up with a goal and an assist.

Here’s how the game played out

Under the beating sun at Stag Meadow, our lads in red got off to a positive start with Nick Thumwood heading just wide in the opening exchanges from a Morrison Hashii delivery.

News signing Hashii found space on the left wing and chipped in a delightful ball into the box which Thumwood got on the end of with a header that glanced just over the bar. Good link up from the frontmen. A sign of things to come.

After our corner was dealt with, we managed to recycle the ball and Luke Phillips found himself on the wing. With a first time delivery he whipped in a low ball aimed for Thumwood, who stuck out a leg but his effort was smothered by the goalkeeper who subsequently took out Thumwood who was left on the deck but thankfully got back to his feet.

The deadlock was broken at the 15th minute mark thanks to a thunderous strike from Sam Hutchings. Tahir Carmichael stepped into midfield, then fired forward a delightful ball right into the path of an onrushing Hutchings, who took a touch before hitting one on the half-volley right into the roof of the net. 1-0 to Windsor and Eton!

Just five minutes later, it was the duo up top that combined again, this time Hashii getting on the scoresheet. Hashi was given space and time to drive at the defense, after he beat one man and took it to the byline, a one-two with Thumwood allowed the new signing to smash in for 2-0 right from six yard out, a quality finish.

We had a glorious chance for 3-0 just a few minutes later as the two Lukes combined from a set piece. Phillips’ delivery  from the free kick found the head of Appleton, only for his header to go wide.

Kieren Jordan made a vital clearance after a ball was played across the face of goal by Amersham Town’s No.7, Kai Bartolo. Jordan was alert to the danger to clear after the attack from the away side, that was against the run of play.

As the game neared half time, Amersham Town struck the woodwork from a long range shot from Ronan Ismaili, the closest the visitors had come to a goal.

The first half finished 3-0 to us in what was a very dominant display.

The team from Buckinghamshire started brightly in the second half, testing us with set pieces and crosses into the box that were well dealt with by the defence.

A brilliant save to keep the clean sheet intact from Finley Purcell in goal, after Ismaili tried a speculative effort to chip Purcell, our No.1 between the stick flung himself to claw the ball out from heading into the top corner. Top goalkeeping.

The away had grown into the game, yet our defense held firm and denied any attacks.

Substitute Aiden Payne-James had a few attempts from long range for 4-0, the first bobbling up awkwardly for goalkeeper Matthew Messa and the other going just wide.

The job was done in the first half and Webby’s men take all three points once more as look ahead Friday evening where we travel to face Hilltop as the intense run of fixtures begins with three games in nine days.
