Match Report
We travelled to Reading on Tuesday, which saw us have an intense run in of three games in six days. Here’s how Webby’s men got on…
Finley Purcell made a comfortable save early on from a glancing header from the opposition.
It only took five minutes for Reading to get the opener as a long throw threatened our box, a flick on to Dan Davies who’s volleyed to make it 1-0 to the home side.
We would have drawn level had it not been a last-ditch clearance from the home side. Jordi Ebanda flicked it on well to Luke Phillips who powered down the left wing. We smashed across a great ball that looked destined for Jack Mazzone at the back post only for the defender who acrobatically cleared.
We absorbed some pressure from the corners but continued to clear well and made some crucial blocks.
A brilliant half volley from Ebanda from about 30 yards out forced Charlie York into a save, the shot looked destined for the top corner as the strike was hit almost to perfection.
The home side looked for a second as number six, Muhamadou Ceesay whipped a dangerous ball into the box which somehow evaded a touch from the awaiting Reading players.
The first half ended with the home side one to the good as we needed a big performance in the second half.
Things didn’t take long to turn the game around as five minutes in Jack Mazzone made it 1-1. A brilliantly chipped in cross from Hashi was placed right on the head of Mazzone whose headed attempt looped nicely over goalkeeper York.
Not before long we took the lead thanks to Luke Phillips’ goal just three minutes later. A great ball was drilled across the face of goal by Ebanda that was begging for a tap in. Phillips ghosted in at the back post unmarked and made no mistake which made it 2-1 to Windsor and Eton.
Mazzone nearly got his second after George Weston-Brown switched the ball exceptionally to find the striker who brought the ball down well and tried a shot at the near post that York saved well. We looked sharp early in the second 45 minutes.
Reading peppered the goal with shots; we put our bodies on the line well to make the blocks. One ball fell nicely to home side in which the attacker struck it sweetly on the half volley, the ball just whistled wide.
On the 64th minute we had a corner which was met by the head of midfielder Ben Catt which made it 3-1 to Windsor. Catt followed this up with another goal just four minutes later. Once more this came from a set piece as Tremayne Wooliscroft’s long throw was met by our card king who jumped highest to get another header, to put the game out of bed.
A horror tackle was put in on substitute Ross Mckernan, five minutes from the end of normal time. Mckernan got to the ball first before the defender leaped in two footed and swiped the legs of our midfielder. The culprit, their no.14 Eddie Lazarczuk received a booking from the referee.
The game finished 4-1, a brilliant comeback from Webby’s men to keep putting the pressure on those top spots on the table. We climbed to 3rd in the table with just four games to go.
