Match Report
Two goals in injury time saw us progress to the next round of the Premier Challenge Cup on Tuesday evening, in what can only be described as a pulsating cup tie! On a difficult pitch, Matt Angell’s pre-match plans went awry as early as the 12th minute when goalkeeper Giordano Zabotti had to be substituted with a hamstring injury. With no keeper on the bench, midfielder Ben Catt donned the keeper’s jersey. Matt’s plans went further awry 8 minutes later when captain Ben Hutchings had to be substituted with a groin injury. It was therefore little surprise that the home eventually went ahead in the 28th minute when Maciej Tajs found the back of the net. We managed to get through to half time which allowed Matt and the management team to regroup. Jatinder Liddar took the keeper’s jersey for the second half, allowing Ben Catt to return to outfield duties and this had the desired impact, with the away side creating several chances. Sean McDonnell was the next player on the injury list though, sustaining a nasty head injury which saw the winger have to spend several hours in A&E. The home side’s Roman Virtsiul seeing red for the challenge. We managed to get our just reward deep into injury time when Ash Howes got us an equaliser. But we weren’t done there as in the 13th minute of injury time, substitute Oli Bach got us a deserved winner. Like Saturday, we’re into the next round!
