Eversley & California U18s vs Windsor & Eton U18s

Match Report

“To be completely honest, I was pleased once we settled into the game after about 10 minutes. We made a slight tactical change and that allowed certain aspects of the pitch to open up and certain players to come alive. Two strong goals in the first half which showcased the football this group is capable of.

However, we have to be much more disciplined. Particularly in midfield. We were missing a few personnel from the squad but ultimately we lacked discipline, particularly in the second half, which cost us the three points. We knew Eversley had to come and chase the game when we were 2-1 up at the start of the second half but I just think that lack of discipline in certain areas of the pitch cost us that control of the game. I think, as a management, we probably could’ve set up slightly more pragmatically in the second half to ease some pressure but, to be quite honest, those individual errors and pressure on the defence should not have happened if we remained disciplined.

Yes, super pleased to see Harry Evans get a back to back brace. He’s been a really hard worker in the starting 11 since we signed him from Ascot United back in October and he’s scored in every game bar one. Zach Woodford, again on the scoresheet was another positive of the game. He’s faced his own challenges this season but is really showing his talent.

I think James Field was a huge highlight of the game and was instrumental in generating those chances and continuous patterns of play which we’ve worked on in training. He is a highlight of our commitment as a club and management team to develop local players and James’ hunger for the challenge has been fantastic even during difficult games such as this.

It was great to see some familiar faces at our old club! Thank you to those that came and watched. Also to all our parents who drive here, there and everywhere, week in week out to get our lads to where they need to be to succeed at this great club.

We now need to regroup, assess and focus on our home cup tie against Yateley next Wednesday.”
