Match Report

Matt Angell’s side overcame a stubborn AFC Winkfield team to progress to the second round of the Berkshire Trophy Centre League Cup. On a day that threatened heavy rain, Windsor started the game brightly in glorious sunshine. The first chance of the game actually fell to the home side, a flashing shot skidding wide of George Armstrong’s left hand post. Moments later, Ben King was cautioned for a late tackle, the resulting free kick blazed high and wide.

Jemel Johnson had Windsor’s first effort of the game, but dragged his snapshot wide. Jatinder Liddar was the next to try his luck, a rasping half volley well saved by the home keeper. On eighteen minutes, James Clark headed over from a well-delivered Liddar cross and Fiifi Carter blasted over the bar from twelve yards. It took Windsor until the twenty-sixth minute to take the lead, an excellent cross from Liddar after great tracking back from Fiifi Carter saw James Clark’s header nestle into the back of the homeside’s net.

Winkfield had a half chance on 41 minutes to equalise, but George Armstrong was always confident the ball was going wide.

Matt Angell made four changes at the break, Jude Van Spall, Isaiah Chase-Kelly, Filip Podgorski and Lucas Lindstrup all coming on. The changes appeared to disrupt Windsor’s flow and Winkfield enjoyed more possession for the opening fifteen minutes. In fact, on the hour mark a looping cross shot had George Armstrong beaten, the bar coming to Windsor’s rescue.

On seventy-three minutes Isaiah Chase-Kelly scored Windsor’s second goal, a fine-bounced finished over the oncoming goal keeper.Minutes later, James Clark scored his second and Windsor’s third, a powerful shot from the edge of the area slipping under the home keeper’s outstretched arms.

The impressive Lindstrup created two more chances before the end, Clark close to completing a hat trick, and Jude Van Spall pressuring the Winkfield full-back into the clearance that so nearly crept in at the far post. The final twenty minutes of the game were played in torrential rain and credit must go to both sides for entertaining the rain-soaked crowd.
