Player Interview: Stevie Romney

7 September 2024,

The women’s first team played its first competitive match last weekend. An away fixture at Barton Rovers. We caught up with midfielder Stevie Romney after the match!

“We couldn’t have asked for a better result for our first ever league game. Delighted with a win especially 5-1. The performance from all of the girls out there was excellent, so proud of them all.”

Pre-match, how confident were you and the squad of getting a positive result?

“Any result for us would have been a positive! We are delighted with how far we have come over the last few months as a team and what we have built. We were full of excitement going into our first league game together.”

Has any one player in the squad impressed you in pre-season and the first match?

“It’s difficult to mention just one because all the girls have been working hard in pre-season and everyone put in such a shift in their first game, it was just so great to see the team come together as one. Special mention to a couple of the girls who are playing football for the very first time this year, and their improvement throughout pre-season has been impressive. Their performance and involvement in the game Sunday was fantastic.”

Have you set yourself a target for the season?

“After taking a knock in one of the friendlies a few weeks ago my personal goal is to stay injury free so I can hopefully play all of our games and definitely pop in some more goals!”

Is there a match you are specifically looking forward to this season?

“I am particularly looking forward to our games at home. I think we are very lucky to play on a quality pitch like Stag Meadow and we love the support from the community. Hopefully we’ll get some good support down to our home games. We look forward to putting in a good shift in front of a home crowd and hopefully making our management team and community proud of our performances!”
