Continuing our player in profile interviews, it was great to catch up with Women’s team striker Rebecca Conlon this week. Rebecca very kindly interrupted her hectic rehearsal schedule to answer our questions.
Where have you played previously and have you always been a footballer, or do you play other sports?
“I have always played football. I started playing at primary school. I was on the school team at primary school, and I’ve loved it ever since! Last season I played for Marlow but when I heard about Windsor and Eton, it was a no brainer, and I moved over.”
What’s your best position and or where would you prefer to play?
“I’ve always been a striker, and I prefer playing up front. But I have played in other positions when I have been asked to. In recent games, I have played on the right wing.”
How would you describe your playing style?
“I base my playing style on different pro players. I watch lots of games and I try to pick up different tips and ideas to use in game play situations.”
What’s your ambition?
“To help the team win the league. If we could do it in this, our first season, it would be a dream come true!”
Who’s the best player you’ve played with in a team, and is there a player you’d hate to play against every week?
“It is really difficult to pick just one player because everyone is amazing and brings something different to the team. I would hate to play against either Georgie (Hill) or Emma D (Ed) because they are so quick..I wouldn’t be able to catch them. I’m just thankful I’m on their side!
Best piece of footballing advice you’ve ever been given?
“It was from our Manager Cathy – “believe in yourself””
What do you consider your biggest asset and something you’d like to be better at?
“My biggest asset would be my determination because even if we don’t have possession in a game, I’m working hard to get it back. I’d like to improve my shooting. We’re always practicing our shooting in training and I’m hoping that soon I’ll score during a match.”
What do you do outside of WEFC?
“I’m currently at college studying performing arts and we’re busy rehearsing for our end of term musical – Legally Blonde. Hopefully my dance skills will help my fancy footwork on the pitch!
Up the Windsor!”
