Interview: LYNDSEY TOMLINSON

12 May 2024,

We have been fortunate this week to grab some time with our new Women’s Head Coach Lyndsey Tomlinson. Lyndsey is very familiar with the local Ladies football scene and brings experience and knowledge to the set-up. But is it the first Senior role she has had?.

“Yes, my first senior role. I did my coaching qualification back when I was at college. I went straight into the fitness industry however and didn’t get an opportunity to put my qualification into practice. I have played football from the age of 19 (minus a short stint at senior school age). I joined Slough Ladies at the time they formed their first reserve team. From there we had a brief stint as Beaconsfield Ladies.

I left when I had my son, but missed playing, so went back and played for Holyport Ladies. Alongside my husband I coach an Under 15’s WEFC Youth boys’ team, so my week is dominated by football, but it’s my passion and I couldn’t think of anything else I’d rather do!”

How much time do you estimate you are dedicating to the role in a week?

“As it stands, we train 1 day a week as we establish our team; We are still actively recruiting players and as the season draws to a close, I’m hoping we will still see a number of ladies join (for the start of pre-season). We’ll then go to 2 training sessions a week and a gameday. We’ll be playing on Sunday afternoons, so my football will be 4-5 days a week minus any planning!”

Has there been anything that’s surprised you so far?

“The stream of players showing an interest. We already have a core number of players, which is fantastic and equally as exciting. I’m very tempted to get my boots back on, a few things are still in the air however. We remind ourselves it’s still early days and plenty of time to get the ball rolling properly. The support from the community has been amazing, there is a real buzz about Windsor’s very first senior ladies’ team!”

Fast forward 12 months, what do you hope we’ve achieved in the year?

“After a successful recruitment drive, I’d like to see a very settled and happy team and to potentially finish top of the league we enter.”

Away from WEFC who do you support?

“I support Arsenal, both the men and women, but I also support a gentleman who is on the spectrum and is a Wycombe Wanderers fan, so I have been following them for a while – ultimately I love watching any team.”
