We’re delighted to share with you our latest interview from our new women’s section, where we speak to assistant manager, Adam Romney.
Adam, welcome to Windsor & Eton, what attracted you to want to be involved with the Women’s section?
Thank you for having me, it’s a pleasure to be here. I was attracted to be involved with the Women’s section at Windsor & Eton FC because of the club’s commitment to inclusivity and equality. I believe in the talent and potential of women in football, and I wanted to contribute to the growth and success of the women’s team. It’s so exciting to be involved from the beginning of something!
How have the first few weeks been?
The first few weeks have been fantastic. There’s been a lot of excitement and energy among the players and staff, and I’ve been impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm to make this a real success.
We see Matt & Rob from the men’s management team have been openly supportive of the women’s launch. What advice have they shared?
Matt and Rob have been incredibly supportive and have offered valuable advice. They emphasized the importance of building a strong team culture, fostering camaraderie among the players, and maintaining a positive and determined mindset, regardless of challenges.
Why is it so important for the town of Windsor to finally have a senior woman’s side?
Having a senior women’s side in Windsor is vital. It provides opportunities for female players in the community to compete and pursue their passion for football. It also strengthens the overall footballing culture in Windsor by adding depth and variety to the local football scene.
What do you hope to achieve at Windsor?
I hope to achieve success both on and off the pitch. On the pitch, I aim to help the team develop into a competitive force in their league, playing attractive and effective football. Off the pitch, I hope to contribute to building a supportive and inclusive environment where players can thrive and develop both as athletes and individuals.
What will success look like for you at the end of season 1?
Success for me at the end of season one would mean seeing progress in the team’s performance and results, as well as witnessing the players grow in confidence and cohesion as a unit. I’d also like to see the visibility and support for the women’s team increasing within the community and attracting more fans to our matches.
The club is working hard to build a pathway from girls football into the women’s 1st team, what advice would you give to any girls thinking about joining a team at any age of our ages groups?
For girls considering joining a football team at any age group, my advice would be to go for it wholeheartedly. Football is not just a sport; it’s a platform for personal growth, teamwork, and friendship. Whether you’re a beginner or have been playing for years, there’s a place for you in football, and joining a team can be a rewarding and enriching experience.
There will inevitably be players thinking about where to play football next season, what’s your sell on coming over to trial at WEFC?!
To players thinking about where to play football next season, I would highlight the unique opportunity that Windsor & Eton FC offers. Our club is dedicated to providing a supportive and professional environment for players to develop and succeed. We have ambitious plans for the women’s team, and joining us could be the start of an exciting journey in football.
Finally, what’s your message to supporters of the men’s side to get them to come down and support the women?
To supporters of the men’s side, I would urge you to come down and support the women’s team as well. Women’s football is growing rapidly, and our team has a lot of talent and potential. By showing your support, you’re not only backing the players on the field but also contributing to the advancement of women’s football in Windsor.
