Interview with Veterans’ Joint Manager Ryan Parsons

2 October 2024,

The Vets competitive season finally got underway last week. Ryan and Joe’ squad made the trip to Oxon to take on Benson Lions and returned victorious! A resounding 6-1 win to kick things off in the UHL Division One.

How did Ryan find the build up to the game?

“It was tough to be honest. We have a big squad with players who would probably get into most vets teams, so leaving players out was hard, but luckily the lads were understanding. We had a couple of withdrawals but that is the good thing about having strength in depth.”

And how did joint manager Ryan Parsons think it went?

“It definitely went to plan (I think). Although we went 2 goals up early in the game it did take a while for us to get into our rhythm, but after halftime we started playing some good football and dominating play. The lads did really well.

Benson were actually better than the result suggests, and you could tell that they are used to vets football. They caused us some problems at times, but we managed to deal with it”

Did you get the same buzz?

“Yes! It was great to be back in the dressing room atmosphere and I think the lads really enjoyed it. All the lads stayed for a drink after, and it brought back a lot of fond memories from the past.”

Any injuries or anyone suffering the morning after?

“Just me, I think! I haven’t had any reports of any soreness or knocks from other players which is good. It was great that Coyney managed to get through unscathed as he had taken a knock in a previous friendly and was doubtful for the game.”
