Interview: Oli Bach

30 August 2024,

In addition to being a regular in Matt’s first team squad, Oli Bach is still very much involved at Under 18 level and is working under George Champion.

Despite this being a particularly hectic period, Oli very kindly stopped for a catch up.

New season, new academic year. Heading to University?

“I finished sixth form and my BTecqualifications in July (2024) and am heading to university at the end of September (2024). My Uni degree is Sport coaching and Physical Education.”

We hear you’ve adopted a coaching role with the under 18s?

“Yes I have, it came about towards the end of last season. I spoke to George, saying how much I enjoyed my time playing under him and his coaching staff, and mentioned how I would like to stick around and help coach alongside him. It will also help me gain valuable experience coaching in a real life situation.”

You spoke about soaking up the knowledge previously, is this something you’ll be communicating to the new crop of u18s?

“100% -being able to take on knowledge from coaches is one of the best assets to have as a young footballer.”

We asked George recently, who in this years under 18 squad could follow you into the first team squad in their first season?

“There is definitely a few that have to potential to be involved in the first team in the near future if they keep working hard in training and performing well in games. There aspirations should be to work there way up to the first team and that is possible here as there is a proven pathway with many players from the under 18s last year training and making appearances for the first team last season.”
