Interview: Luke Appleton

21 August 2025,

It’s a warm welcome back to Stag Meadow to Luke Appleton. Luke very kindly gave us some of his time to catch up.

How easy or difficult a decision was it to say yes to Matt Angell when he came knocking on your door?

“Thank you, I have had a very warm welcome from everyone! It was this year, after talking to Matt the last couple of seasons, having contact with Coops and then always looking at how the club had been getting on, it felt the right time.”

Do you feel you are a better player now, than when you last played at Stag Meadow?

“I feel like I know the game more now. Since I last played at Stag Meadow, I’ve played near around 100 more games in this league, so the experience side of things is helping and developing my game.

There’s always room to improve so I work on different areas of my game. With the help of Matt, all the other coaches and the players at this club I hope to keep improving and getting better the more games I play.”

Is there any one single thing you are excited about this season?

“I’m very much looking forward to playing back in front of the Stag Meadow fans and getting back on that lovely pitch!”

Do you have any pre-game superstitions?

“I will always have 2 bananas before a game, 2 bottles of water and then when putting on my shinpads, socks and boots, I will put my right foot first.”
