It was fantastic to speak with Lewis Francis this week. A player who’s been at Stag Meadow for some time, but appearances have been limited, due to injury.
“I am on the road to recovery from a horrific ACL and LCL surgery. 3 operations, a lot of complications, nerve realignment and 2 years out. But we are back and ready to go!”
“I started off at Finchampstead FC and played for them for several years, winning back-to-back titles, and a County Senior Cup at the Madejski. I then moved onto Windsor FC under Coops as Manager. From there I went Thatcham Town, which is where I had my injury. I’d known of Matty through non-league, but our paths never crossed until now!”
We’ve seen you play in a couple of positions, what is your best position and where do you prefer to play?
“Left Back or Left-Wing Back is where I am strong, but I can play anywhere on the left-hand side or across the back line.”
What’s your biggest asset, what do you think you do well on a football pitch?
“My knowledge and understanding of the game. I’ve played with some great players over the years and have a lot of experience to add on the pitch, especially from a tactical and defending point of view. A few set pieces and long throw-ins can come in handy at times as well!!”
Something you want to improve, be better at?
“Confidence. After a lot of setbacks, I know what I’m capable of on the pitch and how I can help the team. This is a big thing for me and getting back to my best as I have a point to prove!”
Have you set yourself any targets for this season?
“Not particularly. To just to have an injury free (limited) season and help the team in key moments would be a huge achievement for me. Being out for as long as I was, and the severity of it. I know I will have a role to play this year, and It’s been a while since everyone has seen the best of me and I can’t wait to show the fans that version of me.”
What do you do outside of Windsor & Eton?
“I work in IT and when I occasionally get some down time, I attempt to play golf (terribly) and drink every pub dry!”
What pro club do you support and is there a player at that club you’d love to play like?
“I am a huge Arsenal fan, and I’d love to have the confidence of Myles Lewis-Skelly. Growing up however I’ve always admired the playing style of Marcelo.”
