Our first player interview of the new year is with Bakai Manneh, whom we thank for his time over the busy December/January period. Bakai has put in some excellent performances and is a firm fans favourite!
Where would we have seen you play previously?
“I’ve played in Spain for a team called Atletico Benidorm, they’ve since merged and are now CF Benidorm. OJM (Midland Football League), Stourbridge and Lye town.”
What’s your best position and how would you describe your playing style?
“Most definitely, my best position is Central Defensive Midfield and that’s where I prefer playing. I’d say I’m aggressive, with intelligence and an organiser.”
What’s your ambition?
“To win promotion and enjoy playing football.”
Who’s the best player you’ve played with in a team?
“Must be one of the midfielders I played with when I was on trial for Leicester, his name was Habib, and my Gambian brother Lukman.”
Any player you’d hate to play against every week?
“A player called Gaston; we were teammates in Spain we had good battles in training. He’s a player I would hate to play against!”
Best piece of footballing advice you’ve ever been given?
“Let your feet do the talking and protect the ball like it’s your wife.”
What do you consider your biggest asset and something you’d like to be better at?
“Intercepting play, I am confident with the ball a powerful runner with the ball, and good passer of the ball. I’m also mentally strong. As for being better at, definitely perfecting my scanning, shooting and speed.”
What do you do outside of WEFC?
“Read books, spend time with my family, work and going to the Mosque.”
