Match Report
As happened last week in their league opener, Cathy’s side started on the front foot, creating several chances, but found themselves 1-0 down from a Brook House breakaway as the away side showed their league experience being more clinical in the final third after the opening exchanges.
The home side settled well and were soon level when Captain Stevie Romney curled her shot in from 20 yards.
The team kicked on and went ahead when Georgie Hill beat several defenders to get her shot away which was initially saved but Sophie Kinsman followed up and slotted home.
Windsor’s corners have been immaculate at the start of this season, Emma Hester’s delivery was once again on point and after Jodie Fenn poked an effort towards goal, Stevie showed a poacher’s instinct to grab her 2nd when she nicked the ball past the keeper with her back to goal.
A 4th goal would come before half time, Sophie picking up the ball in midfield, spotting the away team’s keeper off her line and striking sweetly just out of range to round off a very confident first half.
Brook House responded with several half time changes and caught Windsor off guard. Despite several one on one saves from Tabitha Gafencu in goal, the Windsor defence was breached twice and suddenly the game was tight at 4-3. A free kick launched over the top of Tabs in goal made it 4-4 and Windsor were the team left needing a response.
After a few tweaks & substitutions, Windsor found their passing range & control of the game and started to create chances again. Several went astray but Laura McGregor showed a true striker’s awareness by following up on two efforts, from Georgie & Sophie which were both expertly finished by the forward who’s hold up play had helped settle the team as soon as she was introduced.
Brook House made life uncomfortable at Stag Meadow when they made it 6-5 and Windsor could have been punished for missing some big chances.
But up stood skipper Stevie who burst through one on one from Lauren Fallon’s pass and finally killed the game off when she lobbed the oncoming keeper to complete her hat trick and give the team their 2nd win from their first 2 games and delight the impressive home crowd with Windsor’s 7th of the day.
12 goals and 6 points so far, Cathy and the team will be thoroughly enjoying their start.
