Interview: Nick Thumwood

20 September 2025,

We had time this week with Nick Thumwood, a player who scored a crucial goal at the tail end of last season and we had hoped would be up and running from the off this season. However, injury stalled the start of Nick’s season!

“It was a trapped shoulder nerve. Which has finally released itself after numerous Physio sessions. After the 25 minutes I played against North Leigh, I’m just looking to get up to match fitness now and hopefully that’s the last injury of the season for me! I’m hoping I can push my way into being a consistent figure to help the squad.”

We saw a cameo from you last season, where have you played previously?

“I list my previous clubs as Badshot Lea, Westfield, Camberley Town, Knaphill, Berks County and Frimley Green.”

What do you think (or know) is your best position?

“I’ve played many positions throughout my career and enjoyed them all (except on the wing). I would say my best position, in my prime, would of been the number 10 position.

The best part of my game, especially in my later years, is my finishing and positional understanding. If I could improve one thing I would have to say speed, I’m not slow but have never been blessed with pace!”

Have you set yourself a personal target for the season?

“I don’t really set targets before the season. I just try my best on a weekly basis and try to get on the scoresheet or assist the team as much as possible. The way the season has started for me, my target is to just stay fit and contribute to the team.”

You’ve not been here long, but who would you have as the first name on your teamsheet?

“For me would be AD (Alex Donville). He is a special talent with so much ability and is a game changer.”

Which Pro-Club do you support and who’s the best you’ve seen play for them?

“I unfortunately support Reading FC. My favourite player growing up watching was Steve Sidwell. He had it all.”

And if you could be a pro at any sport other than football, what sport?

“It would have to be golf. I will be putting my full effort into that when I hang the boots up in the upcoming years for sure.”

Away from Football, what do you do for a living?

“I run a building company for insurance companies. Nothing exciting.”
