Comp: Great Western Suburban League

After a poor performance on Tuesday night Windsor & Eton recorded their first win of the season beating Leamington 1-0 at Stag Meadow.

A single second half strike from Michael Chennells was enough to separate the two sides and boost the Royalists after a poor week.

It could have been a different outcome had Matt Lewis not spurned two early chances.

His first was well blocked by Jeff brown and his second was headed wide of the post.

As the half went on Windsor showed glimpses of getting something from the game with Chennells shooting wide and Dave Pearce going just over the bar on the stroke of half time.

The second half couldn't have started any better for Windsor as they took the lead in a game for the first time this season.

Fiston Manuella picked out Chennells outside the area and his low shot managed to beat Tony Breeden.

Leamington should have levelled almost immediately when Danny Edwards got through only to be denied by a fine save from Delroy Preddie.

From the corner Leamington thought they had equalised only for the referee to disallow the goal much to the visitors amazement.

Windsor rode the pressure well especially when Preddie spilled Lee Downes shot and finally took hold of the ball at the third attempt after Craig Wilding came diving in.

At the end Leamington substitute Darren Stapleton was lucky to make it to the final whistle when he jumped in two footed on Jeff Brown but escaped with a caution.
