Windsor & Eton's involvement in the Berks & Bucks Senior Invitation Cup ended at the first hurdle with a 1-0 defeat away at local rivals Burnham.
Both sides fielded strong sides which saw Windsor manager Dave Mudge's first return to his former club.
Burnham got off to a quick start and should have taken a early lead when Jordan Lumsden managed to send an effort just wide of the post.
An early change for Windsor saw Adam Bernard hobble off with a hamstring problem and repaced by Ashleigh James after just 12 minutes.
The change almost paid off straight away when James headed a David Pearce cross just over the bar.
Burnham made the breakthrough mid-way through the half when former Royalist Joe Chandiram sent the ball into the Windsor area where Ryan Bird headed down for Lumsden to turn the ball in.
Windsor started the second half the stronger and should have got themselves back into the match with Michael Chennells and Ashleigh James both having good efforts well saved by Chay Morris.
The Royalists continued to push forward and when Sam Wadieh struck from the edge of the area and hit the outside of the post it was clear it wasn't going to be Windsor's night.
Burnham could have put any revival to bed in the closing moments when a poor ball from Chris Owens allowed Tugwell to cross setting up Bird who was denied by a fine stop from Delroy Preddie.
